Is there anything better than treating the kids to an ice cream cone on a hot summer day in Washington County? We can't think of one.

Luckily, We have a lot of great locally-owned ice cream shops where we can indulge in yummy goodness. Here are 6 of our favorite places for ice cream in Exeter, Westerly, and Charlestown: (check back next week for West Greenwich, East Greenwich, and North Kingstown)

Next to Nowhere Creamery

230 Nooseneck Hill Rd, Exeter

What we love: Easy access off Rt 3, near hiking trails and the country fun of Exeter. Plenty of picnic table seating.

Holy Cow

5000 South County Trail, Charlestown

What we love: Friendly duck pond while you enjoy your ice cream.

Tropic Frost

4191 Old Post Rd, Charlestown

What we love: Near the beach area but right near Rt 1 for easy access. 80s style rainbow shack houses this ice cream shop.

Kikis Udderly Cool Ice Cream

567 South County Trail, Exeter

What we love: In the shopping plaza off Rt 2, gives you dinner options before your treat right from same parking lot.

Cold Stone Creamery

143 Franklin St, Westerly

What we love: Cold Stone has a different kind of menu of treats then your average ice cream place. Fun to change it up.

Beach Bum Ice Creamery

142 Atlantic Ave, Westerly

What we love: In downtown beach area, ice cream, coffee and some food too.
