We are so lucky to live in an area where nature comes alive in floral displays that can warm our hearts as the temperatures drop!
Rhode Island offers a variety of family-friendly activities for fall fun.

Don't forget to check out our local Fall FUN article below!

Here are some ideas for things to do in and around Rhode Island during the autumn season:

  1. Visit a Pumpkin Patch: Head to one of the many pumpkin patches in the area to pick your own pumpkins. Places like Schartner Farms in Exeter and Confreda Greenhouses & Farms in Hope have great options.
  2. Corn Mazes: Many farms in Rhode Island create intricate corn mazes during the fall season. The Escobar's Highland Farm in Portsmouth often has a challenging maze, and it's a fun activity for families.
  3. Apple Picking: Rhode Island has some lovely apple orchards where you can go apple picking. Barden Family Orchard in North Scituate and Jaswell's Farm in Smithfield are popular choices.

  4. Scenic Drives: Take a scenic drive through the countryside to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage. Places like Route 102 in western Rhode Island and Ocean Drive in Newport offer stunning views.
  5. Haunted Attractions: If your family enjoys a bit of spooky fun, check out haunted houses and hayrides. Field of Screams in West Greenwich is one such attraction.
  6. Fall Festivals: Keep an eye out for fall festivals happening in and around Rhode Island. These often include live music, food vendors, and fun activities for kids.
  7. Hiking and Nature Walks: Explore the state's natural beauty by going for a hike or nature walk in one of the state parks or nature reserves. Be sure to check out places like Lincoln Woods State Park and Colt State Park.
  8. Visit the Newport Mansions: While this is a year-round attraction, the historic Newport mansions look particularly charming surrounded by fall foliage.
  9. Visit Providence: Spend a day in the capital city, Providence. Take a stroll along WaterFire Providence, visit the Roger Williams Park Zoo, or explore the scenic campuses of Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design.
  10. Cider Tasting: Try some locally produced cider at places like the Newport Vineyards or the Foolproof Brewing Company.

  11. Fall Crafts and DIY: Get creative with fall-themed arts and crafts projects at home. You can create your own decorations, costumes, or even a DIY scarecrow.
  12. Cooking and Baking: Involve the kids in cooking and baking activities using seasonal ingredients like apples, pumpkins, and squash. Make apple pies, pumpkin muffins, or hearty soups.

  13. Leaf Pile Play: Collect fallen leaves from your yard or a local park and let your kids jump into piles of them. It's a classic fall activity that's always a hit.
  14. Visit a Farm Animal Sanctuary: Many animal sanctuaries and farms in Rhode Island welcome visitors. It's a great opportunity for kids to see and interact with animals.

Remember to check the opening hours and any restrictions or guidelines for each activity or location before heading out. Enjoy the beauty of fall in Rhode Island with your family!
