Support with shopping!

By Joyce Campbell, Macaroni KID Southern RI Publisher October 19, 2023

We all know it's coming; some of us are excited and have already started, while others are not starting until after trick or treating!  We are talking about  HOLIDAY SHOPPING!  Although many enjoy online shopping, we'd like to share our thoughts on local shopping, specifically craft and vendor fairs.

~Mariner Market Place takes place at NHS on Saturday, November 18th!

Shopping at local vendor fairs offers several benefits, both for the individual shopper and the community as a whole:

  1. Support Local Businesses: When you shop at local vendor fairs, you support small and local businesses, which are often the backbone of the community. Your purchases help these businesses thrive and continue to serve the community.
  2. Unique and Handcrafted Items: Local vendor fairs often feature unique, handmade, and one-of-a-kind products that you may not find in larger, mainstream stores. This gives you the opportunity to discover special and personalized items.
  3. Personalized Customer Service: Shopping locally allows you to interact directly with the business owners and artisans. They can provide you with personalized recommendations, answer questions about their products, and offer a higher level of customer service compared to big-box stores.
  4. Building Relationships: When you shop locally, you can build relationships with the vendors and artisans. Over time, you may become a loyal customer and benefit from special deals or discounts.
  5. Community Building: Supporting local vendors and attending vendor fairs contributes to the sense of community. These events often bring people together, fostering a sense of togetherness and strengthening community bonds.
  6. Economic Impact: Shopping locally helps to circulate money within the community, boosting the local economy. This can lead to job creation and overall economic growth.
  7. Charitable Contributions: Most of the local vendors/craft fairs contribute to local schools, churches or charities.  They in turn then give back to their neighbors, parishioners, and student body.

Overall, shopping at local vendor/craft fairs can be a win-win for both consumers and the community. It helps support local businesses, encourages economic growth, and offers a more personalized and unique shopping experience.
