High School Senior Projects are starting to pop up here and there. We like to highlight all we can to increase the good local students are doing. We wish them all the best in their projects and future endeavors. If you have a student who wants to get the word out on their project, please contact us. There is no fee for this service.
For his senior project, Brady H is collecting food, clothing, and hygiene products for the students who visit the Rhody Pantry at the University of Rhode Island. The pantry offers food, clothing, and other necessities to the students. "Brady just came back from a mission trip to Louisiana with his church, and that truly opened his eyes." his mom Diane told me.
In 2023, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) at the U.S. Department of Education released a major federal report confirming that students in higher education are struggling to meet their basic needs. The report found that nearly 25% of undergraduates are struggling with food insecurity.
The U.S. Department of Education reports that four million undergraduate and graduate students were food insecure in 2020, more than double the rate of all U.S. households the same year.
Items Brady needs for his project are
Food
Clothing
Hygiene products
According to URI's website, the "Rhody Outpost is URI’s principal basic needs pantry for students experiencing food insecurity. The Outpost provides fresh and non-perishable food and personal care items at no charge to students. Formed as a collaboration between URI and St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, the pantry is managed by the Dean of Students Office and staffed by student and community volunteers."
All URI students who are food and/or housing-insecure are welcome to use the pantry.
This senior project will benefit students who are in need of assistance. Donations will be accepted until 4/12.
