I sat down and chatted with local Narragansett school's theater and choral (NHS) director,
Sarah Prickel-Kane for the inside scoop on the Pier Middle School's upcoming production, "Finding Nemo Jr."
Taking little ones to a live performance can sometimes be tricky,
yet Prickle-Kane assured me, Nemo Jr is perfect.
"The performance is approximately 55 minutes with no intermission. It's the perfect length for small children- my own daughters (ages 2 and 3) are so excited to attend!"
With students in grades 5-8, this young cast will entertain you and your family.
Yet there are some older students lending a hand.
"We have a team of HS "Assistant Directors" who have attended rehearsals, mentored the students, and are serving as backstage tech and management crew. Additionally, we have three NHS Seniors working on the show as their Senior Project in various capacities, and the students in our NHS Intro to Theater class have worked on the show by creating costume pieces, props, scenery, and more."
Live shows require a lot of work, how long has this production been on the calendar?
"We had auditions in late November and began rehearsing in December. The students have been dedicated in attending rehearsals 3 times per week for all of December, January, and February."
What is your favorite part of directing this group?
"I love directing middle school theater because the students
never cease to surprise and amaze me with how much they can do!"
Will you have intermission with snacks, photo ops or t-shirts?
"This show does not have an intermission, and since there is no food allowed in the newly renovated NHS auditorium, we will not be selling snacks. However, we'll sell other merchandise, including signed posters, and water as a refreshment before and after the show."
How many people does the theater hold?
"The NHS auditorium seats over 300- so there's plenty of room for you and your family!
We hope you'll come to see this underwater adventure!"
